CASMA: Celebrating the best Canadian screen composing

Now in its fourth year, the Canadian Screen Music Awards (CASMA) is an annual celebration of composer’s excellence in scoring original music for the screen. Launched and administered by Screen Composers Guild of Canada, these awards are open to all Canadian and permanent resident composers with winners chosen by the SCGC’s roster of judges.

The CASMAs aim to honour these composers for their outstanding work in media and screen-based industries. These accolades are the first to be juried and awarded by fellow screen composers in Canada.

In 2025, nominations for musical works are being considered in 12 categories covering feature film, television, animation, documentary, games and interactive media. The SCGC will also present a special award for distinguished services to the industry.

The SCGC Award for Distinguished Service to the Industry is awarded by the Screen Composers Guild of Canada board.

(In alternating years, this changes to a Lifetime Achievement award, judged by the Screen Composers Guild of Canada Awards Committee.)

CASMA Submission Checklist

  1. Composer’s Statement – You are invited to provide a short 250 word statement on the concept and creation of your original score for this project
  2. Cue Sheet – with highlights and exclusions indicated (Interactive/Games category does not require this)
  3. Photo of Composer
  4. Production Still (1920 x 1080, no text or logos on image) – a production still or screen capture from the production
  5. A video file to upload of the project you are submitting for consideration – if you can not provide a file to upload, please email Alison at awards@screencomposers.ca to discuss
  6. A 30 second music sample of your submission – no dialogue

Watch the 2024 CASMAs

The Screen Composers Guild of Canada celebrated the Canadian Screen Music Awards (CASMA) in September 2024 with in a live ceremony held at Toronto’s historic El Mocambo venue.

The proceedings were also live streamed for those unable to attend in person.
